Day 2 in India

Sunrise through the "haze"

We go to Agra to see the Taj Mahal. Agra’s 5 hours away, so that was the whole brunt of the day. I also almost lose my passport.

Day 1 in India

At the Airport

Originally uploaded by FngKestrel.

I’m finally getting around to sorting through the 1800 photos that I took during my trip to India.

This is day 1. Well, it’s more like day 0, which bled into day 1. By the time we were done traveling, we had been moving for about 36 hours. Tack onto that the time we were physically awake before and after we got off the plane and it made for a serious marathon session of sleep deprivation.

Happy Chrismahanukwanzkah!

Sunday, December 25th, 2005

To avoid the war on Christmas and still remain totally PC, I’m opting to say Happy Chrismahanukwanzakah. If you have issue with that, take it up with Virgin Mobile.

Enjoy the holidays, and may they be happy.

Recovering

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

Coming back from India has shown exactly how crazy it was. Jacob went to the doctor yesterday, I’m still hacking up phlegm and Kal’s still having stomach issues. We’re all still jetlagged, and I’m waking up at these ridiculous hours because my body thinks it should be 12 hours later! Oh well. Once I get the rest of my pictures from Jacob, I’ll start the uploading process.

I’m back!

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

Back from India. Actually, I got home yesterday, but was so exhausted that I took a shower and collapsed in bed. I’ve got an obscene number of photos to go through, and I’m actually missing about 600 of them because they’re on Jacob’s hard drive. So once I get those, I’ll go through the process of culling out the crap and uploading the pics to flickr.

Goa

Friday, December 16th, 2005

Goa is fucking amazing. Everything I hated about Delhi is absent here. It’s green, lush, and absolutely beautiful. North Goa is lively with people swarming the beaches and a nightlife, while South Goa is calm and serene, with pristine beaches as far as the eye can see.

We’re staying at Cavalossia (sp?) in South Goa at a Holiday Inn. Yesterday, we swam in the Arabian Ocean, it was warm and sensual. The waves crashed with such a rhythmic beat, I could stay there forever.

I’m at a beack shack with internet access right now in North Goa. It’s a balmy 70 degrees at 6:45 PM. There’s a wind blowing, but it’s refreshing. I got a henna tattoo on my neck just for the hell of it. I’ve also been drinking. Those might be unrelated, but I doubt it.

Prices are dirt cheap. With the exchange rate about 45 rupees to the dollar, and a meals varying from as low as 20 rupees to as high as several thousand, there’s a price for everyone.

Coworkers who have been staying in North Goa has been partying till 5 in the morning. The normal way f things seems to be drink, party, move to next bar when the bar closes. Continue ad infinitum, or nauseum if you’ve been drinking too much.

The local drink here is fina, mixed with Limca, a lemon lime soda. It’s pretty strong and you can taste the fina through the soda. We ordered port and even though it’s a dessert wine, they serve it in a full wine glass.

The seafood is excellent, but then again, what would expect from an sea-faring port? Had king fish in garlic butter, so much for my diet.

This is my ramble, since my journal is woefully underdocumented. There’s just so much going on and so much to do that finding time to write is a challenge in itself.

We saw some Portuguese Cathedrals in Old Goa. Damn you Daniel and your conversionist ways. j/k

It’s nice here. I can see the appeal.

Music flows over me like the wind itself. I follow its siren song.

More India

Monday, December 12th, 2005

India has been great! If you have an Indian friend who invites you to his wedding, by all means, take him up on the offer. It is IN-FREAKING-SANE. I can’t even begin to explain how crazy it is. Pure fucking insanity.

In India

Thursday, December 8th, 2005

Quick post for the moment. We’re in India, I haven’t drank the water yet, everything’s going well, more or less. No time to upload photos because I’m at a little internet cafe. Lots of pictures. It’s day 3 and I already have something on the order of 350 photos. I’ll have a big slide show when I get back.

See you guys when I get back. Let me know if you guys want anything in particular from here. I’ve done a little bit of shopping, but mainly a lot of driving.

India Bound

Saturday, December 3rd, 2005

Tomorrow at 10:30 AM, I get on a plane to India. It’ll be a long flight, somewhere on the order of 18 hours. But when we get there, we’ll be in New Dehli, and ready to celebrate the wedding of coworker. Then we’ll go to Kathmandu, then Goa, then Mumbai.

I’m freaking out while I’m packing, praying that I didn’t forget something silly…like pants.

I get back on the 20th, see you then.

3 more days

Thursday, December 1st, 2005

In 3 days, I will be on a plane, traveling for 24 hours, to get to India. Time to suck down some Airborne. It’s going to be awesome. 😀
